Rome, 17 April 2025 – FINANCIAL EDUCATION, SAVINGS, AND CIVIL RIGHTS: INSTITUTIONS, SOCIETY, AND THE MEDIA
On 17 April 2025, the meeting entitled “Financial Education, Savings, and Civil Rights: Institutions, Society, and the Media” was held in the Refettorio Hall of Palazzo San Macuto, at the Italian Chamber of Deputies. The event was moderated by TG1 journalist Mario De Pizzo.
The initiative, promoted by the Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and the Committee for the Planning and Coordination of Financial Education Activities (Edufin Committee) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), provided an opportunity for dialogue among institutions, academia, the third sector, schools, and the media. The objective was to explore the value of financial education as a tool for civic development, social inclusion, and individual awareness.
“Financial illiteracy can be a toxin for each and every one of us; it makes us increasingly less capable of protecting not only our savings but also our civil rights. We must understand how to prevent and combat this phenomenon,” said Donato Masciandaro, Director of the Committee.
The event was opened by Marco Osnato, Chairman of the 6th Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, and Professor Donato Masciandaro, Full Professor at Bocconi University and Director of the Edufin Committee.
The thematic speeches that followed included:
- Third Sector: Maria Bianca Farina, President of the ANIA Foundation;
- Education and Schools: Paola Frassinetti, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Merit;
- Civil Rights: Manuela Semenzato, President of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on Femicide;
- Universities: Professor Emilio Barucci, Full Professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan, and Professor Germana Giombini, Full Professor at the University of Urbino;
- Media: Fabio Tamburini, Editor-in-Chief of Il Sole 24 Ore.
The event was concluded by Carla Ruocco, representing the Edufin Committee.
