On 17 March 2026, the initiative “Financial Education in Schools: Students, Teachers, Institutions” will take place, marking the inaugural event in Italy for Global Money Week 2026. The event, hosted at the Carlo Azeglio Ciampi Conference Centre (Via Nazionale 191), will begin at 9:30 am with greetings from the Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, and the President of IVASS and Director General of the Bank of Italy, Luigi Federico Signorini.
At 9:45 am, Ida Mercanti, Secretary General of IVASS, will present the latest projects focused on insurance education.
This will be followed, at 10:00 am, by Donato Masciandaro, Director of the Edufin Committee and lecturer at Bocconi University, who will present the Second Report on Financial Education in Italian Schools, which will provide an updated overview of young people’s financial literacy and of the training initiatives aimed at teachers.
The morning will continue with a panel discussion at 10:15 a.m., entitled “Institutions serving students and teachers: a comparison of experiences”, featuring contributions from:

- Stefano Cappiello (MEF)
- Francesca Carbone (Ministry of Education and Merit)
- Nadia Linciano (Consob)
- Mariacristina Rossi (COVIP)
The discussion will be moderated and concluded by Maddalena Rabitti, IVASS Board Member.
The initiative aims to enhance the role of institutions in promoting informed financial literacy among students, in line with the educational objectives of Global Money Week, and to strengthen the dialogue between schools, regulators and the world of finance.

What is Global Money Week?
Global Money Week is the international campaign promoted by the OECD to raise awareness among children and young people about the importance of financial education. The theme of this year’s edition is “Smart money talks”.
Each year, it engages institutions, schools and organisations, with the aim of promoting informed financial decisions and developing skills that will be useful in the future. Since 2012, the event has engaged over 70 million young people in 176 countries.
In Italy, the organisation and coordination of activities are entrusted to the Committee for the Planning and Coordination of Financial Education Activities.
The Edufin Committee
The Committee for the Planning and Coordination of Financial Education Activities is responsible for planning and promoting financial awareness and education initiatives aimed at measurably improving skills in the areas of savings, investments, pensions and insurance. The Committee, currently chaired by Professor Donato Masciandaro, comprises the following members: Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Education and Merit, Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Ministry of Labour and Social Policies, Bank of Italy, CONSOB, COVIP, IVASS, OCF, and the National Council of Consumers and Users.
