European Network of Financial Education Ambassadors launched: Italy represented by Professor Donato Masciandaro

On Monday, 16 March, the European Commission convened the first virtual meeting of the National Financial Education Ambassadors. Appointed by the Member States, the Ambassadors will play a key role in strengthening and promoting financial education initiatives at both national and European level, engaging citizens and communities through various channels, including the media and participation in public events. They will also direct citizens to reliable financial education programmes, useful resources and relevant points of contact through public awareness-raising activities.

Italy is represented by Professor Donato Masciandaro, Director of the Committee for the Planning and Coordination of Financial Education Activities.

The meeting represents an important step in the implementation of the Commission’s Strategy on Financial Education, adopted on 30 September 2025. As part of this strategy, the Commission has committed to launching an awareness-raising campaign on financial education at the European level, with the aim of complementing and amplifying national efforts. A central element of this campaign is the establishment of a network of National Financial Education Ambassadors.

The meeting coincided with the launch of Global Money Week (GMW), the annual global campaign organised by the OECD to educate young people about financial literacy and responsible money management. On 17 March, the inaugural event in Italy for the 14th edition of Global Money Week, entitled “Financial Education in Schools: Students, Teachers, Institutions”, was held in Rome.
